Rapid product release using DevOps
Microland’s DevOps capabilities resulted in faster, better and more efficient product feature and update rollouts for a US-based bank
Microland’s DevOps expertise was used by the client’s Prepaid Card Payments business for a product release and deployment management service. The goal was to improve user experience by reducing product errors, improving release cycles, and preventing failures and downtime.
- 10% improvement in product release cycles
- 25% reduction in service downtime during application releases
Client
The client is one of the largest banks in the US with interests in banking, investment, mortgage, trust, and payment services addressing individuals, businesses, government entities and other financial institutions. The bank has more than 3,000 branches, ~5,000 ATMs and over 72,000 employees.
Business Goal
The client needed to improve the release process for new product features and updates in its Prepaid Card Payments business unit. The existing process was slow and inefficient. This resulted in product errors during release, system failures, downtime during application deployment, degraded user experience, increased efforts for fixes and reconciliation and consequent financial loss.
Microland Solution
Microland designed a release plan for the client that took care of code deployment, back out plans/execution and post release documentation. To ensure smooth, efficient and timely rollouts, Microland’s DevOps expertise was used for a release and deployment management service. The engagement covered close to 200 releases across development, UAT, Disaster Recovery and production environments.
The solution addressed the complete application portfolio of core payments, portal, legacy web apps, batch processing of ETL and reporting jobs.
Business Outcomes
With a standardized management structure for all application releases and deployments in the Prepaid Card Payments business, the client was able to realize the following benefits:
- 10% optimization of product release cycles through robust application release and deployment processes
- 25% reduction in service downtime during application releases
