He doesn’t watch TV, dislikes reading the newspapers and loves isolation. Our guess is that the lack of distractions gives him the focus to do the things that distinguish him as a Digital Warrior. So recently when he had to solve a problem, he taught himself PHP and My SQL, and got down to solving the problem. Every day, for around a month, he put in three to four hours to come up with a way to automate application maintenance for a client. His solution, built using PowerShell scripts, performs end-of-month checks for performance levels of a client’s billing application. Typically, the application throws up failures every month. These need to be fixed by adjusting the right parameters. Now, Srinivasula’s application does it automatically. When deployed, it stops the client’s billing application, pulls the logs from multiple servers and sends them for analysis. This used to be dependent on the Microland team. Now, thanks to Srinivasula, the client’s employees can log into a URL and run the automated month-end checks. The automation saves 4 hours of manual effort each month and has eliminated the dependence of the client on the Microland team. The project began in a somewhat unusual manner. It used to bother Srinivasula that the problem did not have a solution. So he began working on automating it. It was his manager who saw it and said, “That’s amazing!” So they took the solution to the client. The client loved it and Srinivasula has been basking in sunshine ever since. Not that you can see him do it – remember, he loves isolation? “This would not have been possible in the company I worked before,” says Srinivasula. “Most organizations are requirements driven. Microland is different – here, we are always looking for ideas and the management is employee focused.” That’s why he believes his skills and talent will bloom here. And nothing could delight him more. Big into music playing the flute and the keyboard, Srinivasulu’s idea of a downtime is quite family time.
