Microland Digital Warriors | 51 © MICROLAND LIMITED 2020. Internal Circulation Only 50 Can being lazy become a virtue? Answer: Yes! Ramkumar plays cricket on the terrace of his home. He keeps a bat and ball and every now and then he gets up, whacks a ball or two and gets back to his laptop. He is a self-confessed cricket nut. He also says he is extremely lazy. We can’t map the two – his love for cricket and being lazy – without creating a conflicting image, but who are we to argue? His love for the game made him the captain of the Computacenter Team participating in ML tournaments and his laziness has resulted in automating QA checks on servers provisioned for a client. For good measure, he automated the server build as well. In this case, we admire “lazy”. Earlier, the checks were manual with reports passed along to the provisioning team for cross verification. The client would have between 60 to 70 servers to check each month with each check taking 45 minutes. Ramkumar changed that. Now, everything has digital at its core. The results of the QA check are automatically mailed to the relevant teams and displayed on a dashboard. This has reduced the RFS tasks, reduced manual effort, improved accuracy and the client is now utilizing the L1 and L2 engineers for higher level projects. “I was apprehensive about the automation,” says Ramkumar. “It could affect billing. But Microland wanted the client to benefit. The decision has led to improved billing through better projects.” He believes that Microland is not rigid and it is the reason people love to work here. The results of the automation have encouraged Ramkumar to look for digital tools that clients can use to automate other processes. We wish him the best in his digital adventures. It is almost 12.30 pm when we are talking to Ramkumar and he excuses himself from the conversation saying that “it is shift hand over time”. His wife, a teacher, works from home between 9 am and 12.30 pm. He looks after the house work until then. At 12.30 pm the hand over happens, the shift changes and it is time for Ramkumar to get to work #LifeInThePandemic Ramkumar P This Digital Warrior drove several automation pieces of work around QA Checks and Monitoring. He also participated along with his colleagues in automating proxy enablement and other such manual- intensive tasks.”
