Vamshi, as everyone calls Vamshidaharreddy, is currently living in the village of Gundupapala in Andhra Pradesh. He has been leading a village life, loafing with childhood friends who he hasn’t met for decades. “It is quiet here,” he says, “But safe and away from the COVID-19 pandemic.” Just two or three months after joining Microland, he was eager to show his talent and an irresistible opportunity came his way. The team monitoring Wintel and VMWare servers for a client wanted a script to replicate logging into 10 controllers every day, deploying a script on them, then sending alerts to raise incidents. Vamshi wrote a script that reduced the manual effort the team put in. Now, using his script, a task the team executed in 50 minutes takes 5 minutes. Besides, the accuracy of monitoring has improved. “I had done this for Wintel before,” says Vamshi, speaking online from Gundupapala (we could imagine him happily digging into tamarind rice and spicy gongura pickle). “I checked some online forums to develop the command lines for VMWare and to meet the specific requirements for the client.” Boom! In three days he was done. Microland can now pass on the advantage of saved person hours to the client. The script can be re-used and is an asset in Microland’s digital library. When the script was deployed, everyone around him went, “If I get a chance, even I would like to prove myself.” Personally, says Vamshi, the motivation for work comes from writing small scripts that don’t get noticed. These scripts never make it to the limelight but they are small steps that lead to the next big project. If ever there were wise words spoken, these would qualify. Now Vamshi is looking forward to his next big project (doubtless, between digging into delicious gongura!). He wants to take server provisioning to the next level using automation.
