Microland Digital Warriors | 25 © MICROLAND LIMITED 2020. Internal Circulation Only 24 Excited by earth-scale challenges After struggling with the legacy technology of a customer for six years, Bijo decided to end the saga. The Blue Coat proxies, used to enable security policies for third parties working with the customer, would often go down. These systems were used by warehouses and logistics partners to ship massive medical devices, 24X7, all over the world. When the boxes would go down, the customer’s shipments would come to a grinding halt—and Bijo’s team would struggle to reboot the boxes and prevent shipment backlog from building up. Worse, the Blue Coat proxies had reached their end-of-life and did not have vendor support. Replacing them would cost $1.2 million. But having supported the customer’s complete infrastructure in the network space, Bijo knew exactly how to save those dollars. He deftly shuffled the infrastructure in the customer’s IT estate maximizing the available and eliminating the redundant. The complete solution took 4 weeks to design and a few months to implement. But no one was complaining. The outstanding innovation saved the customer $1.2 million. Bijo is what you’d call a Microland veteran. He has invested 14 years with a single customer of which the last nine have been from Alpharetta in the US. Alpharetta has over 700 technology companies and is the kind of suburb that dreams are made. It is the perfect environment for Bijo to ideate and come up with digital solutions to intractable problems. “The proxy solution was easy enough,” says Bijo. “However, moving the partners and warehouses was time consuming as we didn’t have an exhaustive list of users.” But Bijo’s idea of digital is to connect end-points and users and ensure everyone works more efficiently. So he didn’t mind investing more time on the human side, systematically identifying users and moving them to the new system. It doesn’t matter how, but he made digital happen! “I am lucky to have a client whose operations are on earth scale,” says Bijo. “The challenges are massive, there is always something new to do and the feeling of achievement is tremendous.” For a compulsive movie buff like Bijo, action is where the work is! So, what’s next, Bijo? Bijo Varghese This Digital Warrior orchestrated the solution for data center consolidation and DMZ migration to the cloud supporting the cost out initiatives for the customer. This gave the customer a financial benefit of $2.5MN for the year. This initiative put Microland as a trusted technology partner of choice for the enterprise network infrastructure.”
