Internal Circulation Only 18 Making dumbmachines smarter “When I enter a factory, it is that feeling of excitement that fills me—of how digital can transform it.” When you hear that obsession from someone, you can expect magic. From making a traditional brick-and-mortar factory to a smart factory to forging deep partnerships with PTC, Microsoft and Schneider, Arjun has done it all. In helping TRL Krosaki Refractories Limited experience digital transformation, he was central to Microland’s first end-to-end smart factory deployment. Today, it stands as a valuable reference for newer leads in the space. As one of the early members of our IIoT team, Arjun’s tryst with the factory floor dates back to his first job as a graduate engineer at Bharat Petroleum’s refinery in Mumbai where he and his team were fondly referred to as “doctors” by the staff--courtesy the way they walked around carrying machine vibration analyzers around their neck (similar to a stethoscope). Little did Arjun know that these systems were his first steps in a world that was in waiting. From the early days of tech that did “monitoring” on the factory floor, today tech is “managing” the factory floor. “IIoT demands domain depth and aggressively seeks business impact with a deep focus on ROI—all of which excites me,” says Arjun. This is clearly why he is Microland’s poster boy for new pursuits—including our recent wins in the pharma and renewable energy spaces. Arjun’s tech depth and industry focus aligns beautifully with the capabilities that Microland wants to project. It’s easy to see how Arjun makes digital happen. Compulsively digital, he flaunts how he never takes down notes manually but instead uses OneNote extensively and tries to get digital into the everyday. He fondly recalls how he was part of the team that introduced Calendly, Teams and Zoom to Microland way back in 2017. And for someone who monitors his infant son through a smart camera, it all does appear like child’s play. This digital warrior is always ready for battle!
