Microland Digital Warriors

Microland Digital Warriors | 11 © MICROLAND LIMITED 2020. Internal Circulation Only 10 On the digital trail since 2006 You could think of Alok as the King Kong of Digital. He beat the masters at their own game. Recently, when EY wanted to unify their data warehousing, data lake and the Machine Learning algorithms being used, they chose Microsoft’s Big Data Cluster (BDC). Alok and his team deployed BDC, customized it, engineered it to improve performance, fixed its shortcomings and sent patches to Microsoft to make the product better. EY can now deal with 4X the data in the same time frame as before. But, in the ultimate coup d’état, Microland won the Managed Services bid against Microsoft itself—even through Microsoft was offering the service free. But the bigger gain this implementation allows is that Microland can now venture into new tech spaces like Spark and Hadoop. Alok has also turned MicroUniv, our online self-learning management system with a catalogue of over 30 courses, into a super-hot application for Microlanders. It is now mobile- enabled and fully gamified with medals, shields and a bunch of other bells and whistles. Alok is not new to a digital life. For him, digital is a synonym for “disintermediation” (so, when Swiggy gives him a refund without human intervention, it is digital). When he joined Microland in 2006, his journey to make digital happen had begun. In 2008 itself, Alok’s applications, which was a part of erstwhile MicroWhiz, known as Initial Troubleshooting and Autoclosure, closed 20% of tickets with no engineer being assigned to the tickets. (for GE). Those applications have been through evolutions, acquiring different names across the years, are now a part of SmartCenter. Alok has created several other applications in Microland, Integrated Watcher, Project Hermes, Microland Orchestrator, Machusla, Shatakshi, and his latest one Project Zeus, to name a few, In his own words, Some of the projects have been a resounding success, and some of them have been disastrous. “That’s why I love Microland,” says Alok. “People here are willing to listen. The company is open to ideas.” Behind the veneer of a geek is an artist at his elements—a short film maker, a poet and an author starts the list. His goal is to use automation so even his role can be replaced. “I’ve been trying to make myself disappear, but have failed miserably!” he says with a smile. In this particular instance, we don’t mind failure! Alok A S This Digital Warrior revolutionizedMicroland’s learning programwith MicroUniv, an advanced online learning platformwhich has a catalog of more than 30 courses. He also spearheaded a world class solution for building a modern data warehouse. This solution outclassed competitive solutions includingMicrosoft’s Parallel Datawarehouse and Azure Data Bricks solution.”
